Project Gallery is delighted to present 'Pattern and Shape', an exhibition of collages and prints by Chowwai Cheung.

Chowwai Cheung has lived in Devon for 20 years and its rural and coastal landscape inspire her creative work. The conscious juxtaposition of patterns within her images is informed by the myriad of complex erosions made by man and weather upon this landscape. Her compositions fuse observational and imaginative elements to create a visual reference to her surroundings, hinting at narratives but allowing the viewer room for their own imaginative interpretation.

Chowwai experiments with Collagraph Printmaking Technique as she likes its accessibility and room for diversity. She constructs printing plates using the same techniques one would use to create a collage: by cutting patterns and building layers of textures. Heretofore, her practise in textile design has informed a deep understanding of repetitive design and colour combinations which translates into her unique multi plate prints.
